Feathered friends

One of the delights of the trip has been getting to know some of southern Africa’s stunning bird life. Here’s 3 that we’ve seen regularly: the red-breasted shrike that darts like a restless flame from tree to tree; the yellow-billed hornbill seen regularly gliding around in the bush; and the white-browed robin chat, which appeared quite curious and prepared to pose patiently for close-ups. The fourth, the African barred owlet, arrived at dusk, observed me occasionally as its head swiveled round, and disappeared as silently as it arrived. More than 500 of birds can be found in the Okavango Delta and my tally so far barely amounts to 40. I need to stay a longer … and get up earlier. πŸ™‚
