It’s the start of a major new trip and time to introduce you to Clancy and Greg. Which is which? Clancy is the cruiser: solid with a one-of-a-kind camper on its back; equipped with all manner of useful gear n’ gadgets; sturdy enough to tough it out on Africa’s rough roads; storage galore; and roomy living space. Greg is long and lanky, easy going, knowledgeable about Africa, and with a sufficiently versatile skill set to fix almost anything. This blog includes a few photos of us getting ready for our ~ 2 month trip in southern Africa. I’m doing the easy stuff and getting into digital nomad mode, as I’ll be working on the road. Meanwhile, Greg does all the tricky stuff: repairing Clancy and installing the ‘all manner of useful gear n’ gadgets’; painting split rims and putting wheels, tubes and tyres back together; installing a Starlink dish so I can continue to work in remote locations; and racing around J’burg for supplies. We’re expecting to head north from J’burg on Sunday and then on to Botswana. If you want to join us on the road use the ‘follow blog’ link at the bottom of the page.

Hi Dr Karen,
Congratulations on achieving such an auspicious title…..much hard work during rather trying times.
Your Africa trip sounds really exciting, to say nothing of quite challenging……Botswana should be really great by all reports.
All the best and good health all the way.
Cheers. Dick
Hi Rick,
Thanks for the message. Yes, feels great to have finished the PhD. Fortunately, the person I’m travelling with has lots of travel experience in Africa. He’s spent some time already in Botswana but hoping to get to some new and remote locations. Should be interesting. I hope you’re keeping well and still catching the fish.
Take care
Cheers,
Karen xkx
