Pebble fields

image

Part of the Camino path that I have been following has had many rounded pebbles embedded in the surface. This makes walking quite uncomfortable, particularly for heels and ankles. Yesterday I passed alot of farmland full of these river-rounded pebbles, which I hope you can see in the furrows of this close up of a recently cultivated field. As I was thinking how hard it must be to farm this land, along comes a tractor that crashes and clangs its metal discs through one of these challenging fields. However, the large stacks of hay that dot the landscape are testament that something can grow in these pebbles. Thankfully, I only have to manage walking on them.

  1. just caught up with the last three posting… lovely photos, the colours are great. We took ourselves up to Llyn Crafnant on Sunday to take in the autumn colours in the trees and Bodnant gardens yesterday, nature at it’s best. Don’t envy on those stony paths! onwards and upwards… Love Leex

    1. Ahhh. Crafnant. Sounds nice. Yep. The paths have been uncomfortable at times. It’s not a complaint as we’re extremely lucky to have paths and signs to follow. We are well looked after. But the uneven paths are creating some issues with my heels. But progress is being made – 446 km in 21 days. Pleased with that. xkx

  2. Found a little about the Camino so we have an appreciation of the trek you are undertaking with such enthusiasm. Walking is certainly a great way of appreciating the countryside. With regard to your pebbles, in the Mallee the pebbles are small and sometime large limestones. Tschuess J & T

    1. Yes, walking does you a chance to notice things. Also, travelling light and staying in basic accomodation does make you appreciate even the simple things. I’m enjoying that aspect. You would not want to farm with the density of pebbles in some of their fields. I haven’t dug a soil pit (wonder why?) but if they go for any depth, it’s amazing they can grow anything. The sound of puttings discs in the ground was shocking. xkx
