Paris in 20 minutes

Eurostar was late arriving, the taxi queue was long and there were no taxis in sight. With estimates of travel between Gare du Nord to Gare du Montparnasse varying between 25 to 55 minutes, a taxi bike seemed like a sensible suggestion. Hair net, bike helmet, padded jacket and padded blanket on, I was whisked through the streets of Paris: we passed by row upon row of beautifully balustraded apartments, under the arches of the Palace Royale and across the Seine. My stomach, grumbling and hungry from an early morning start, endured the sight of smart Parisienne cafes and patisseries groaning with delicate delights. Montparnasse was reached with 15 minutes to spare: enough time to take a snap of the black clad Olivier, receive a ‘Welcome to Paris’ and pay the fare. Sure, it wasn’t cheap but it was less than a replacement ticket to Bayonne and not a bad option for a 20 minute much-abbreviated tour of Paris.

  1. advantages of travelling light I guess….. and as you say a unique way of seeing a little of Paris, loved to have seeen you on the back. Good to know you made it in time and that you are at the start ready for the first days walking. Love from the Williams’s take care, nighty night.

    1. A little bit of fun. I decided to stay in Bayonne for the night. Lovely town. Had a galette Andalusian for dinner accompanied by a bolee (cup) of local cider. Tres bien. St Jean by train today and start walking tomorrow.
