Parry Beach

Ahhhh. I’ve finally driven through the dot on the map called Parryville, travelled down the road called Parry Road and camped for five days at Parry Beach campground. This has been in the travel plans for a long time and now Parry Beach has made it into the parry-graph. I’m not sure why visiting a place with your name is so satisfying, but it is! Some people commenting on the beach say it’s a bit ordinary and others that it’s fabulous. I fall into the latter category—carrying a tad of bias admittedly—and, I guess, it all depends on what you like to do, including your style of camping. The beach and surrounds offer safe swimming, which is great for children and less confident Parry swimmers. The long distance Bibbulum walking trail passes through the campground and there are several inshore reefs for fisher folk. Dolphins regularly arch their way across the bay—and occasionally bring their offspring up close when you’re out in the bay paddling—and eagle rays visit the shallows. For the paddler, Parry Inlet is easily accessed from the beach by portaging across a low sandbar and I spent a long morning kayaking around the inlet with plenty of birdlife for company. Ocean paddling from the beach out into William Bay was a slightly different ball game: one day the water is like glass and you can see to depths of ten metres or more and the next day there are unpredictable dunk-you-forever waves that are fairly close to shore. Hum, a Parry with good moods and grumpy moods: a bit like yours truly Parry. I felt very at home at Parry Beach and could easily have vegetated for longer.

    1. It’s about 30kms west of Denmark. I really nice spot. But then you’re visiting some lovely spots too. I think the last one you shared on Facebook was Mt Field – a really nice place with some great walking. I hope you have a lovely Christmas. xkx

  1. You found the centre of the Parry universe! Hope all is well Karen, looks like you’re having an amazing trip. All the best for Christmas and the New Year, where will you be? Kim xx

    1. Howdy Kim,
Too true. All things Parry – Parry heaven. Unfortunately, Parryville was just a dot on the map with no physical place name. A shame as I was expecting to see lots of people wandering around all called Parry: all lovely people, just like us. Yep, trip has been fantastic. No complaints, just it will have to come to an end when I return to Adelaide late January. I’m planning a trip to UK and Europe in August next year. I had planned to do one of the Camino/pilgrim walks but now I’ve done so much kayaking, I’m tempted to switch the focus of the trip. I’ll have to get some tips and recommendations from you and Gwynnie.
I’ll still be in Western Australia for Christmas at a place called Bremer Bay.
I hope you have a lovely festive season. Please give my love to Gwynnie, Michelle and my lovely aunty. I hope she’s been able to settle in well to her new home: a big year for her.
      Love Karen
