Elephants at Mudumu

A tip off from iOverlander helped us find a park to visit part way along Namibia’s Caprivi strip. Even though the weather was hot and dry, we saw elephants crossing a main road not too far from Mudumu National Park (see earlier post ‘Along the road II’), which seemed to bode well for what we might see in the actual park. The park didn’t disappoint, and we saw various sized groups of elephants every day, and always with several babies and other youngsters. At one point we came round a bend in the track and found the tail end of a group that we later determined comprised more than 40 elephants. A female from the group blocked the track, making it clear that we should wait for the remainder of the group to pass. Meanwhile she and some others, seemed to be digging and eating dirt from around the track. The third and fourth photos were taken from our campsite. What an amazing experience to sit in camp and glance up every now and then to check out what the elephants and other wildlife were doing.
