Matopos grasses

The grasses in Matopos come in a range of colours and shapes, creating dry beards on rocky outcrops or tall stands of thatch in valley floors awaiting harvest. But the low later afternoon sun brings out the best of the gold and russet colours, creating star bursts from the smallest dessicated seedless heads.

    1. It’s quite an amazing place with lots of grasses … will have to find out how many. And more than 800 species of lichens and mosses. Extraordinary. xkx

  1. The grass looks similar to what we have growing here. I reckon it would be great to light fires with. Pretty shades. xx

    1. Yes, some do look similar. These 2 continents do have a shared history. Albeit, a long time ago. So there may be an evolutionary connection. xkx

  3. The photos don’t really do them justice. The first photo really does look like a beard! And the late light through the grass is just gorgeous. Keep warm, sista. xkx
