Grass Patch Blaze Aid II

A few other Blaze Aid moments: the pleasure of witnessing the signs of recovery as mallee regrowth appears; 20 years of soil improvement disappears as strong winds strip away the sandy soil from the open cropping paddocks; two days later and a very welcome 50mm of rain turns the sandy soil to heavy sticky clay – enough to require farmer aid for Blaze Aid to remove a bogged trailer from a rain soaked paddock; a Blaze Aid trio with grubby but satisfied faces that testify to a hard sweaty day in a dusty, dry and burnt treeline (courtesy of Heather); another lovely trio having smoko by a cindered billabong with frogs bonking in the background; Blaze Aid: a circle of friendship and hard workers camped up at the Grass Patch oval. The Grass Patch team was managed by, cared for, reminded of our duties, delivered tough love through the comely phrase “suck it up princess” and ably led by the extraordinary duo of Chris and John Male: the community they fostered within the camp, within the farming community and further afield was inspirational to behold. Good luck for the next few months.
