Walpole River: reflections and traces

These photos could have been taken on quite a few of the rivers where I’ve been paddling: you just need to strike the right conditions i.e. calm, calm, calm and be the first on the water. When I’m travelling in the camper, I’m usually awake before sunrise and if it’s not too cold I can be on the water nice and early, which provides the best chance of being on the move before the wind. And if you’re lucky you’ll be paddling with glass-like conditions like those I encountered on Walpole River. The reflections were so perfect that it’s hard to tell the vegetation from its mirror image: indeed, one of the four images is shown upside down. I also managed to capture a shot I’ve been trying to get for a while: the trail of bubbles left by mine and Kermit’s passage through the water. We always leave some trace of where we’ve been and each paddle stroke forms and ‘releases’ two mini vortices, which then create a trail of bubbles. The trail was still there when I passed back about thirty minutes later.

    1. Too true, Di. Just got up and out on this river at the right time. There’s still a few eastern WA rivers to be paddled but the western rivers take the prize, so far. on the Walpole, I spent more time taking photos as opposed to paddling. one of those special moments. xkx
