Hazard signs: a trio of

I particularly like the black and white sign, which is the only unadulterated sign amongst the trio. It’s a ‘going down with the ship’ type of stance: chin up, eyes forward, shoulders squared, arms rigid and knees locked. I imagine that the graphic artist drafted a line of up silhouettes: each one becoming more rigid and unnatural until no further iota of forbearance could be squeezed into the symbol. The result is a frozen figure that is so unlike what most of us would be doing if placed in the same situation. Full marks would be awarded, though, if you were being judged on your opening posture for a frenzied Irish jig. This sign is crying out for mischievous alteration to communicate a more emotional and authentic response to the occasion being depicted: maybe an ironic salute, in keeping with the stoicism of the stance; an open-mouthed “Oh shit” or, at the very least, relaxation of some parts of the anatomy. You can decide which!
