Derby

Before I got to Derby, I just felt that it was going to be a good place to visit. The Derby brochure suggested a real effort to connect visitors to the less, as well as the more, obvious attractions of the town. It was also the first bit of coast that I’d hit since leaving Adelaide. Those who know me would be aware that I’m not a water baby but there is something special about looking over a patch of water: calming, breeze in your face, strolls on a jetty – all that sort of thing. With the second highest tidal range in the world – more than 10m, Derby has vast mud flats, which are perfect for early morning walks. I liked the place and will return to WWOOF there in a few weeks. (Photos clockwise from top left: cattle trough, not lap pool; sunset from jetty; me on the mud flats; old open air gaol and scene of much misery; catch of the day?)
